From 19 November to 26 December the Schönbrunn Palace will fall under the spell of Christmas, the glittering lights creating an incomparable atmosphere at the Christmas Market, providing a magnificent setting for this romantic Advent village. Usual opening hours are 10am-9.00pm, except 24 Dec opening 10am-4pm and 25 and 26 Dec opening 10am-6pm.
In additon to the record seventy-five and more exhibitors from Austria and neighbouring countries, the festive opening, an invitation to join the benefit public choir and a Christmas workshop set up dor the first time, the special editions introduced in 2010 will this year feature unique items from ten craftsmen and women. Anticipation of the Christmas celebrations combines at the Schönbrunn Christmas Market with handicrafts that keep up a tradition datin back to the habsburg area.
Products range from wooden Christmas tree decorations, felt, glass and stone, to handmade pottery, tin toys, clay products and hand-carved mangers. Visitors can also enjoy wines from all over Austria as well as punches and tea specialities, including non-alcoholic and sugar-free varieties.
Christmas music will be provided by choirs, brass bands and groups from all over the world on the stage in front of the Christmas tree. (every day, entry free).
There are also a lot of activities to keep the young amused which include confectionary decorating, traditional Christmas stories and ‘Hunt the Christmas Parcel".
Christmas Workshop
Traditional handicrafts are the most important feature of the Schönbrunn Christmas Market. To ensure that this tradition is kept up, children are given the opportunity to learn about the handicrafts of some of our exhibitors and also try their skills. Needless to say, they can also take home the items mady by them.
Further activities include: Interactive game for children „The Clumsy little Angel“ - free admission, Children's Museum, Cookie baking for children. Father Christmas will visit the Market on December 5th and 6th from 2pm to 6 pm and distribute small presents. As the year comes to a close, the Christmas Market will for the second time be transformed into a New Year's market. On 27 December the booths will be redecorated and the market will open again from 28 December to 1 January 2012 with special New Year's items to supplement the traditional handicrafts. Opening hours every day from 10 am to 6 pm.
