We visited Brussels Winter Wonderland in December 2009. The Grand Place in Brussels is well worth a visit. The town hall lights up all different colours and patterns and there are some light displays to music at certain times on some evenings which is really good. There is a giant christmas tree in the centre of the square too. Most of the markets are on Place Sainte Catherine and are set around an ice rink with a giant ferris wheel at the top end (excellent views from the top of that!). There are around 240 wooden chalets twinkling with fairy lights and covered with snow topped roofs that sell a variety of Christmas items, decorations, gifts and Christmas season food and drink. The atmosphere was great and it was slightly busy but no busier than any other Europeon christmas markets we have visited.
Aswell at visiting the christmas markets we also paid a visit to The Atomium and Mini Europe Park, both a must see and a great day out.
Whilst in Belgium, we also visited Bruges and the christmas markets there. (It wont let you review Bruges markets on this site so ill add it here!) Bruges in December was fantastic (apart from the rain that never stopped while we were there!) The markets are on the main square with an ice rink in the centre and there are also some chalets on Simon Stevinplein. There are around 30 wooden huts in total selling christmasy gifts and speciality foods. It is mainly the setting of Bruges that makes it worthwhile. We went back in Summer the following year and had a fantastic time. A visit to Bruges at any time of year is a must through anyones lifetime.
Overall, we really enjoyed Brussels Winter Wonderland, the amount of gifts on offer along with the delicious food and the great atmosphere was a great experience. I would highly recommend a visit!

Don't be put off by the ladies below.we went there this evening and thought it was fairly good. Not half as busy as described. I would pre-caution those expecting a bargain, whilst there are a few great gift ideas and plenty of opportunities to stop for a wine or three it's far from good value, contrary to the euro being slightly in our favour.

I am very lucky as I am a Brit ex-pat so I can choose the less busy times to visit this market - it is a family member's birthday just after Christmas when the market is still open. To visit then is quieter and loads of fun as you are hardly queuing at all for the Ferris wheel or the ice rink and there is good hustle and bustle of people but not an overwhelming number of them. Weekdays in early December is also a good time to go adn find fewer folks there.
