Lille's Month Long Christmas Market
This Market is extremely popular with the British because of the Eurostar link. Visitors to this market quickly get into the festive spirit with Lille's month-long Christmas market, held in the Place Rihour in the centre of town. The whole of the Place is taken over by stalls selling arts and crafts and local cuisine. There's entertainment for children in the shape of theatre and games and a chance to sample traditional French Christmas delicacies. Visitors with children can have photos taken with Father Christmas, who attends the market and participates in a spectacular event on Saturday 19th December - when he "falls" from the Chamber of Commerce's 80 metre-high Belfry.

I like to take my son to this market every Christmas.
We travel by Eurotunnel as we like to have the car to do shopping at the lovely shops and Cite Europe on our way home.
The market is central so very easy to find.
There are plenty of hotels to choose from to suit all.
The market has lots of stalls selling handmade decorations, toys, honey, beers and lots more! There is something for all.
You will not go hungry as there are lots of places to eat including stalls offering hot soup, hot dogs, cocolate crepes and donuts!
Lille is lit with Christmas lights and looks magical.
It really is worth a visit as it engenders a real Christmas spirit.

This is the first time I have visited a Christmas market and I wasn't disappointed. Basel is a lovely old town which comes alive at night. The atmosphere around the beautiful Christmas market was very festive with dozens of wooden cabins selling all manner of things and decorated with fairy lights. From traditional baubles and decorations to chocolates, cheeses, arts and crafts, knitwear etc there is something for everyone. A mug of warming Gluhwein is a must whilst browsing! My daughter and I stayed at the 5* Grand Hotel Les Trois Rois, just a stones throw from the shops and market. It is an elegant place to stay with friendly, helpful staff and excellent service. We were collected from the airport in a chauffeur driven Bentley - a nice touch! The afternoon tea is delightful and I can thoroughly recommend their full-body massage. Rooms are luxurious with free mini-bar, Bang & Olufsen TV and a vast buffet breakfast included. The local trams run every few minutes and we used it to get to the zoo one day which was well worth the visit.
