Lille's Month Long Christmas Market
Lille (northern France) is the place to dream and to do some Christmas shopping! The 83 wooden chalets of the Christmas market are open every day from 19 November to 30 December. They offer Christmas decorations and festive food, as well as arts and crafts. A Ferris Wheel turns on the main square, which is transformed into a winter wonderland, dominated by an 18-meter high Christmas tree. Shop windows compete to be the most original, and the 3900 shops in the city offer something for every taste and every budget.

We went to Lille last December on a day trip from Brussels. It was easy to get there by train and only took an hour. The market, although only quite small, was packed with plenty of gifts and food to keep you entertained for a few hours. I had the best chocolate doughnut ive ever tasted!!! There is also a giant ferris wheel which feels a lot higher when you are on it! With Lille being easy to get to on the Eurostar or Eurotunnel, its a nice and easy trip at Christmas time but it is a small market and will only take up a few hours of your time. There don't seem to be many other attractions around Lille to fill more than a day trip so i wouldn't recommend it for more than that amount of time.

On Friday I went to lille with my school for the day , we went to the centre which had a good atmosphere. Me and my friends went on the big wheel 2 times as it was very good. We also went around the Shopping centre where you will find a massive shop called fnac. I Had a waffle in the market which was delicious. From Calais , it took us 2 hours to get to Lille but there was heavy traffic so it would probably be quicker to get there under normal traffic conditions. Very nice place to go for a day trip. I'd recommend it.

Lille is a small Christmas market, compared to German ones. But the ease of access from Eurostar and local hotels, does make it very popular. However, the actual market is small, only one enclosed market area, but the big wheel and other attractions make it nice for a day, but not worth a long weekend. Lille itself is a nice town, with lovely Christmas decorations and good restaurants. So good for a day trip - yes.

I went to lille on a coach trip and enjoyed every minuite of it, I spent three hours in the markets, but i didn't buy much, but I bought a delicious crepe, it was two euros but it was huge, and covered in sugar, it was freshley made for me, and it was moist and sweet, but not however sickley.
I especially enjoyed the ferris wheel nearby, which was a first for me, I went on it twice in one day! It was 4 euros for a adult and 3 for a child.
The local restaurants nearby offered delicious food and all the shops were good.

I like to take my son to this market every Christmas.
We travel by Eurotunnel as we like to have the car to do shopping at the lovely shops and Cite Europe on our way home.
The market is central so very easy to find.
There are plenty of hotels to choose from to suit all.
The market has lots of stalls selling handmade decorations, toys, honey, beers and lots more! There is something for all.
You will not go hungry as there are lots of places to eat including stalls offering hot soup, hot dogs, cocolate crepes and donuts!
Lille is lit with Christmas lights and looks magical.
It really is worth a visit as it engenders a real Christmas spirit.
