Lights, Christmas trees and wonderful decorations…Visit the attractive and cosy Christmas Market in the Velvet Cave between 16 November and 23 December.

This year, Santa Claus has taken up residence in the Velvet Cave. You are invited to visit his home!

Take a look at the room of presents, visit his bedroom and admire the reindeers and sleigh. A visit to the Christmas Market in the Velvet Cave is more than beautiful decorations alone; on your tour of the cave you can enjoy the impressive mural paintings, sculptures, the unique 18th century chapel, market stalls with Christmas and gift items, ancient trades and a cosy catering establishment.

The Christmas Market in the municipal caves of Valkenburg aan de Geul can be considered as the largest and oldest underground Christmas Markets in Europe. This year the doors will open for the 26th time. You’ll be surprised by the lovely settings and decors, which are in full harmony with the numerous stands offering Christmas gifts and other luxuries. The spacious and long galleries that are typical for this cave, are very inviting to visitors who want to spend time in a musical setting and a fancy equipped Christmas cave.

This parade with beautiful floats, dancers and animators will mobile through the centre of Valkenburg every Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. and every Saturday evening at 7.30 p.m.

And also Santa Claus himself takes part in the Christmas Parade.

From November 16th until January 1st 2013 is Valkenburg, the Christmas City of the Netherlands, transformed into a Magical Christmas place where there is plenty to do. The beautifully lit streets form an enchanting decor for hours of festive fun. Maybe you will even meet Santa Claus. There is always something special to do. A marvellous walk through the beautiful Geul town of Valkenburg, during which you can enjoy a number of delicious amuses at 5 renowned catering establishments. For children there is an amuse walk with a hunt. Starting November 16th until January 1st 2013 the 2 routes are available at the Limburg Shop of the Tourist Information Office of Zuid-Limburg and at the participating establishments.

During ‘Christmastown Valkenburg’ choirs, bands and music groups will play and sing on a stage in the centre of Valkenburg.
