What an amazing day out we had! Being lucky enough to be fairly local we managed to visit this market on several occasions including the Dickens Festival weekend. It was truly brilliant. I agree with another reviewer that there was lots of foods stuffs and delicacies on offer but we felt this was a good thing as the event catered for all tastes and palettes!
The Dickensian characters were brilliant, welcoming us as we entered the gates. Everyone, traders and fellow public members, were all in good Christmassy spirits. The event staff were extremely helpful when my friend was looking for the on-site baby-change, friendly and professional. The Ferris wheel enabled us an amazing view of the surrounds and the kids loved the little tea cup ride and other attractions.
My friend and I thought the event was really well thought out and very nicely decorated and lit up plus there were loads of lovely Christmas gifts available from hamper ware, to bags, jewellery, luxury scarves, kitchen gadgets, pretty decorations for the tree and some beautiful plant stuffs from Holland. You will not go hungry at this market – so go with an empty tum and an open mind so you can sample some of the delicious foods on offer.
There was so much to do, see and eat - it really is a great day out. Can fully recommend this one so go and enjoy!

A long journey to reach the town, I dont have satnav but there were plenty of sign posts for Rochester once you come off M25 (plus I'd google mapped before leaving home!)
According to the website, theres free parking. Having spoken to a local resident I can say there was NOT free parking. Having read a few reviews since, I'd say its related to Park & Ride (which I didnt see any signs for!).
Duly paid my fee and we made our way to the High Street.
After a quick look round, we then went on to the Christmas market. Set in the grounds of Rochester Castle, this had the potential of being absolutely fabulous. However reality was the stalls were all very samey. Only one stall with anything remotely Christmassy. We're not all boozers or want a hot dog, so for me and my friend it was a total let down.
There was supposed to be a Bavarian Oompah band - the five people wandering round playing instruments hardly rates band status!
Having spoken to various friends since, I found they all felt the same as I did and were disappointed with the market. I had read on the web site that the organisers wanted there to be a good variety of stalls, but this was not the case. If I had spoken to my friends first, I wouldnt have bothered driving all that way.
My friend and I ended up going to Bluewater where there was a lovely, varied, Christmas Fair which made up for the mornings disappointment
However it was not all doom and gloom. The people dressed up in Dickensian clothing at the entrance were lovely.
I am still wondering about the fajita and indian food stands at a DICKENSIAN market . . . my history lessons had no mention of such food places existing in that time!
Oh and not being allowed to rate this market unless I give it at least one star is hardly fair when I didnt think it rated any for quality

We visited on Sunday 4th December 2011 and parked in the free park and ride near Dickens World. Transfer was quick and easy and would recommend.
The very many friendly Dickensian characters, Grand Parade and snow machine alongwith Rochester Cathedral and Castle as a backdrop added to the Christmassy feel.
The Christmas Market set in the Castle grounds was closed for an hour due to overcrowding and once inside the ground it was still rather busy. The traditional German wooden huts were lovely although I felt stalls selling food outweighed stalls selling Christmas gifts etc which was a bit disappointing. The entertainment offered throughout the day at various locations was super, in particular the Choir with their festive songs. Would recommend a trip to Rochester Christmas market.

visited this market last year and was quite disappointed - not many stalls to look around and although there were street parades, when these took place everyone was crammed to the side. lovely carol service at the castle though with a good atmosphere

This is an amazing Christmas market and is the best I have seen in Kent. There are lots of fantastic stalls set in the traditional German wooden huts. With the castle in the background all lit up it was truly magical. The food was great and I had Belgium waffles, German sausages, Dutch chips and enjoyed lots of mulled wine! I also brought lots of Christmas gifts and my son absolutely loved the huge Christmas tree and carousal! He thought that he was in Christmas land! As well as the market Rochester also has a lovely old fashioned high street and cathedral to visit. Well worth the day out!

Visited the Market yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed our time.
We managed to park easily and parking was free from 10am-4pm in the car park on Corporation Street which was great.
There were lots of stalls with a variety of good quality products.
Enjoyed the Mulled Wine and Bratwirst, while taking in the wonderful festive music at the Bandstand. The Rockchoir was very good. I would recommend a visit to everyone - young and old!!
