The Angel Hill area of Bury St Edmunds, with its recently crowned cathedral, medieval Abbey Gate and links with Charles Dickens is the ideal setting for a traditional Christmas Fayre. An added attraction is the town’s nearby cosmopolitan shopping centre with its great mix of famous name stores and independent shops plus cafés and restaurants galore. Visitors on Saturday will also be able to sample the delights of Bury St Edmunds provisions market on the Buttermarket and Cornhill while, this year, the date also coincides with the Cathedral’s Christmas Fair and the Medieval Fayre in Moyse’s Hall Museum. There will be street entertainment on all three days leading up into the town centre and more stalls in our new shopping centre 'arc' There really is something for everyone.

Bury St Edmunds is the perfect place for a Christmas Market. The Angel Hill area is lovely and with the cathedral in the background creates a lovely atmosphere. The event has lots of different stalls in different locations around the town. I really loved the entertainment particularly the animals around the Cathedral area. I go to Bury St Edmunds quite a lot during the year and always love the street market and this year the new shopping centre has added more shops to the town. I can't wait for this year's Fayre it says it is going to be bigger than ever

I am always amazed at the quality and quantity of stalls here; you can buy everything from locally produced mulled cider to French shabby chic kitchenalia. My best purchases last year were a really nice selection of handmade African crafts, some bowls from a wood carving stall (spent ages looking over their goods, all delightful), and funky handbags and jewellery as christmas presents for friends, and posh choccies and French olives as a treat for myself! The scene is atmospheric with the backdrop of the Cathedral and Abbey Gardens, and the old hotel where Dickens stayed offers olde worlde hospitality, with plenty of common or garden cafes if you want to warm up! I'm a tad too old for the funfair rides, but lovely watching the kiddies faces as they enjoyed them. Its fun with all its arresting sights and joyful banter during the day, but becomes extra festive at night. If you stay over and fancy indulging in high class (but reasonably priced)cuisine, then dont miss Maison Bleue in Churchgate Street. The usual Market on a Saturday is good for groceries (wouldn't be Christmas without tangerines and roast chestnuts!) and good value wreaths too (and mistletoe if you're feeling lucky.) Obviously a great deal of thought and planning goes into the Christmas Market, and I think Bury should be congratulated- it's where my Christmas begins.
