The Christmas markets of Düsseldorf transform the metropolis at the Rhine into a magical festive world. At Dusseldorf Christmas market, discover all kinds of Christmas delights at over 200 lovingly decorated huts and explore the vast array of theme worlds in numerous parts of the city. You will find glittering Christmas tree decorations, distinguished handcrafts and plenty of tasty seasonal treats offered simultaneously at seven different locations, all within easy walking distance.

Christmas Market on Marktplatz (market square).

During the period of the Christmas market, Düsseldorf’s City Hall will be constituting a magical setting for the Christmas Market on Marktplatz (market square). A Christmas market quarter will stretch across the square at the feet of the statue of mounted Jan Wellem – Düsseldorf’s landmark – with huts modelled in colour and style of the brick building of the renaissance city hall situated at the heart of Düsseldorf’s old town. Mulled wine and hot chocolate will invite guests to stay for a while and craftmen and craftwomen working with glass blowers and as wood turners will offer their wares here. And there’s more: the craftmen and craftwomen will always be happy to demonstrate their skills to interested visitors. While on the square, a lovingly restored almost 100-year old merry-go-round will be the attraction for both young and old. Also, the hand-carved life-sized manger from the Bethlehem is always a major attraction.

“Engelchenmarkt” (“Little Angel Market”) on Heinrich-Heine-Platz

The sandstone facade of the top-class Carsch-Haus department store will set the tone for the colour scheme of “Engelchenmarkt” (“Little Angel Market”). The music pavilion on Heinrich-Heine-Platz, an art nouveau masterpiece, has been the inspiration for the market huts to be adorned with floral motifs and angel figures in wrought iron. The square will be turned into a veritable sea of lights that will reflect in the golden angels to be seen everywhere – creating a “heavenly” atmosphere. Both traditional and new culinary delights will await visitors here. The music pavilion will again be inviting people to warm themselves this year with deliciously fragrant mulled wine.

Christmas Market on Flinger Straße

Flinger Straße will create the seasonal link between Marktplatz (market square) and Heinrich-Heine-Platz. The hut facades will be modelled on Düsseldorf’s old town houses to create a unique harmonious ensemble. The traditional mulled-wine pyramid located on the adjacent Heinrich-Heine-Platz will once again be a striking and popular meeting place.

“Sternchenmarkt” (“Little Star Market”) at Stadtbrückchen

The “Sternchenmarkt” (“Little Star Market”) at Stadtbrückchen, idyllically located in the courtyard of Wilhelm-Marx-Haus, is always popular with old and young. Crystals and sparkling stars that break the light into thousands of colours will immerse the courtyard in a mysterious light. A winter landscape to dream in!

Christmas Market on Schadowplatz

The Schadowplatz this year is set to delight visitors with a fully restyled market. A village in wintry white will spread festive cheer with all the flair reminiscent of Scandinavia. The redesigned market will be set up right outside the new Kö-Bogen with its innovative architecture. The stores in the Libeskind Building with their quality offerings are guaranteed to open up new dimensions to Christmas shoppers in Düsseldorf. In 2016 the Schadowplatz promises to combine a delightful setting with a unique Christmas market experience with shopping in style.

Christmas Market at the Kö-Bogen (Jan-Wellem-Platz)

Visitors to the new “Christmas Market at the Kö-Bogen” will be able to enjoy the sight of traditional wooden huts set against modern architecture and a panoramic view of Hofgarten.

The atmospheric huts that stood on Gustaf-Gründgens-Platz in previous years now line the eastern side of the Libeskind building, extending as far as the Terrace Steps of the Kö-Bogen Promenade. Visitors can look forward to delicious treats, handmade natural products and, of course, the highlight: the ice rink with its picturesque view of Hofgarten and the Landskrone pond. For the little ones, there is a children’s carousel as well as an activity tent with an action-packed programme.

Christmas Market on Schadowstraße

On and around Schadowstraße, the visitors will be offered craftworks, snacks and seasonal beverages. Children will be able to enjoy the merry-go-round.

Ho-Ho-Ho Hopping Tour

Savour the fragrances of cinnamon and gingerbread, of mulled wine and hot chestnuts lingering in the narrow lanes, and listen to the stories and poems your well-informed guide tells you. The round tour ends with a deliciously spiced mulled wine (a cup of steaming hot chocolate for the little ones) and scrumptious Christmas biscuits.

Christmas Shopping

Düsseldorf is one of the most exclusive fashion and shopping destinations worldwide. The exclusive boulevard Königsallee with its famous fashion labels and special flair of luxury serves with everything a shopping-heart desires. Scene shops and boutiques with young and trendy fashion can be found in the Altstadt (old town) and in the Flingern district. Lovingly decorated shop windows, illuminated shopping streets ablaze in a sea of lights, and magnificently decked-out shopping arcades promise a very special shopping feeling in Advent.

Most stores are open from Monday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
