St Nicholas Fair is at the very heart of Christmas activities within the City of York.

Over 100 traditional style chalets with twinkling fairy lights can be found along Parliament Street, St Sampson’s Square, The Judge’s Lodging and Coppergate.

For some Christmas highlights from 2017, take a look at this YouTube video.

This years market will launch on Thursday 15th November and will run for 39 days until Sunday 23rd December.

Last year Visit York reported a footfall of 1 million visitors to the Christmas market.

Here is what some of our traders had to say from 2017:

“It was our best ever Christmas market in ten years of trading.”

“Overall a truly wonderful experience yet again.  Superbly organised, managed and maintained from start to finish.”

“York stands out across the whole of the UK in terms of its quality as a market and how it is managed.”

I love coming to York at Christmas. The atmosphere is truly wonderful and there is magic in the air. York is so easy to get about and everything is within walking distance. With the park & ride, which is really efficient it is so easy to get into York. The markets, shambles and shops are full of wonderful gifts, food and the atmosphere is so exciting. There is music playing as you go making it feel very Christmassy. There is even a Christmas shop!!

My husband and I went to the St Nicholas Fayre last year. There was a good selection of stalls; providing lots of ideas for Christmas gifts and goodies to eat. We particularly liked the tree decorations that were personalised with names of individuals or families. Well worth a visit. Arrive early as it gets very busy quite quickly and can be difficult to see all that is on offer.
